  • Praja Vidyalayam

pra.juh vid.ya.la.yum - meaning a school for citizens – is a school geared towards educating underprivileged children. Most often, the students in this school chose to work as daily labor to support their poverty ridden family. Currently, the school has 175 students in various grades. The students are counseled and their interest in studies is evaluated. Once the evaluation is done, the kids are placed in appropriate grades and in addition to providing them with quality education, Praja Vidyalayam helps them learn other skills (book binding, stitching clothes, welding, cycle repair, electric work, etc) to support their families. The kids in the school go through periodic medical checks, avail opportunities to attend sessions on personality development, career building events, to name a few. With the funding received thus far, the school is able to provide lunch for all kids for 2 days out of a 6 day school week. All kids from this school are attaining Grade B+ at a minimum with most at Grade A. To sponsor a kid’s education for a year, it costs 5000 INR (~$84 USD) and another 1000 INR (~$16 USD) – a total of $100 USD per kid. Donors are urged to think through the difference they would make in one’s life for a mere $100 and donate graciously. The school is currently organized and managed by Kambhampati Mahidhara Foundation and is supported by Mallina Foundation. The school is located in Kakinada, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
