***Project Update - End***
After 68 years of Independence of India, many tribal villages have no proper drinking water facilities and tribes are facing severe problems in availing drinking water and accessing water for other domestic purposes. Springs are the prime source of water in tribal areas where they would be perennial or semi in nature. Tribe’s mostly depend on spring water and most of it is contaminated. Also, consuming the contaminated water results in water borne diseases among adults and children.
Women are the prime victims in this regard. They are involved in fetching water from hill points by trudging hills carrying over three pots on their head. This daily practice causes heavy pain with neck and backbone – often resulting in reduced capability to earn their livelihood.
Gravity Fed Water Supply System is an effective drinking water system where water from a source point at higher elevation is tapped and allows to flow to the village at lower elevation by means of pipelines connected to tanks at source and distribution points.
Mallina Foundation, in association with Chaitanya Team in Visakhapatnam - Andhra Pradesh, has evaluated the vicinity and have selected 3 villages that are in prime need of water system. The teams have discussed the project with local village heads and gram panchayats and received the following commitment.
Mallina Foundation is reaching out to its patrons to help provide a better livelihood for tribals in remote villages, particularly in Eastern Ghats.
